Hotel Rangá’s Royal Suite offers visitors a true luxury experience. What’s more, the room has exquisite views of the striking Eyjafjallajökull volcano and the lovely Rangá River. In spring, guests may also open the doors to find red-necked phalaropes and grey phalaropes swimming on the small pond just outside their room.
Relax in the tub
The Royal Suite’s design is inspired by Hotel Rangá’s style—a cross between a hunting lodge and luxurious log cabin. It is a spacious room with staggering views. In fact, the room features a relatively high ceiling, a recommendation from the hotel’s electrician who proposed concealing a girder with a curved surface.
A beautiful Jacuzzi stands in the center of the room, nestled behind elegant French doors. This delightful combination creates a perfect romantic setting. In fact, the Royal Suite is an excellent choice for couples celebrating a special anniversary or even a wedding day.
Art Inspired by Iceland
The room is decorated with artwork created by many of Hotel Rangá’s favorite Icelandic artists. Notice the unique rug decorated with colorful geometric patterns in yellow, grey and white. You will also see a blue line swerving and swooping across the rug. This is meant to be the East Rangá River. In fact, if you look closely you can even spot Hotel Rangá.
Sigrún Lára Shanko created this unique, handtufted rug. She is an Icelandic artist who is inspired by the Icelandic landscape. What’s more, she also uses wool from Icelandic sheep to create her rugs. Just beside the Royal Suite’s bed you will find two other rugs by Sigrún Lára Shanko.
Luxurious Accommodation
The Royal Suite is furnished with beautiful pieces from the US and Canada. There is an especially inviting king size bed as well as two sofa beds. In fact, it is not unusual for groups or families of up to six people to stay in the room.
Luxury at Hotel Rangá: Two showers
The suite’s bathroom also boasts two showers. These often become a topic of conversation. For example, not long after the suite opened, hotelier Friðrik Pálsson got a visit from a travel agent and his wife. “I was showing them the suite and when the travel agent saw the showers. He said they were a marvelous idea,” Friðrik says.
“It’s brilliant having them side by side,” the travel agent said. “I always take turns making the shower hot and cold in the morning. This way, I could just go between the two.” Then, Friðrik says, the travel agent’s wife looked sweetly at her husband and said: “You’ve always been so romantic darling.”
