When Santa Clause met Meat 🥩 Hook in @cavesofhella

Meet Hook or Kjetkrókur is the 12th Yule Lad, which means he comes down from the mountains in the night of 23rd of December.

In the evening Icelandic kids leave their shoe in the window and if they have been well-behaved the Yule Lad leaves a small gift or candy in the shoe.

This year it’s “red christmas” but that is what we Icelanders say when it isn’t snowing during the holiday season.

In Iceland we celebrate Christmas on the evening of the 24th. That’s when we have a big dinner, exchange gifts, some go to Christmas mass and just celebrate family time together.

On the 25th is more of a calm, restful day. Many choose to read a book, a very common Christmas gift.

They were a little skeptical of this American Santa (the Yule Lads are more their style), but bread—being their favorite snack—changed everything.

What do hotels do to old linen?

At Hotel Rangá we turn them into gift bags with help from kids in a local school.

These bags are then used to help the Yule Lads give our guests presents thirteen days before Christmas.

When Santa Clause @santa_j_claus met Ketkrókur / Meat-Hook, one of the 13 Icelandic Yule Lads in @cavesofhella

Meat-Hook is the 12th Yule Lad, he is known for being crazy about meat 🥩 and he would use a hook to steal a smoked lamb hanging from the rafters.
