Þórsmörk – the Valley of Thor – is an incredible nature reserve located only 1 hour from Hotel Rangá. We highly recommend that all of our guests take a Super Jeep tour to visit this wonderful place. Þórsmörk is known for its sheer beauty – the reserve is a study of contrasts. The valley features not only dark black sand but lush green moss cut through with glacial rivers. In the distance, visitors can see a backdrop of glaciers including Eyjafjallajökull glacier volcano.
Þórsmörk is also known for its great hiking trails and offers photographers some amazing opportunities to get the perfect shot. Experienced hikers are able to tackle the difficult but rewarding Fimmvörðuháls and Laugavegur routes. Super Jeep tours are a great option for visitors who want to experience a little bit of everything that the area has to offer. Local guides will show you the best parts of Þórsmörk and take you on shorter hiking routes.
The Þórsmörk nature reserve is open to all visitors from May to mid October. It is important to note that 4×4 Super Jeeps are required to access the area due to river crossings. During the winter months, visitors are only able to access Þórsmörk as guests on a Super Jeep tour. This is due to weather conditions which affect the road into the reserve.
