DC-3/117 plane wreck can be found on Solheimasandur black sand beach on the south coast of Iceland. It was originally used for cargo transport by the United States Navy. On November 21st 1973 the plane was on the way from the village of Höfn to Keflavík airport when the weather suddenly turned. The plane was hit with strong arctic winds and both engines gave out due to icing. The captain managed to land the plane on the frozen black sand beach and luckily the five persons that were onboard survived. The wreckage has weathered a few storms since then so there is not much left of the plane wreckage, it has however become a very popular tourist attraction and can be seen in commercials and music videos shot in Iceland, most notably Justin Bieber´s ”I´ll show you”.
