Only a few kilometers away from the south shores of Iceland, lies the village of Skógar along the Southern Ring Road. It is a popular summer-resort centre surrounded by unusual scenic beauty. The greatest attraction of Skógar is the beautiful 60-meter high Skógafoss waterfall in the river Skógaá. One of the finest folk museums in Iceland is situated in extraordinarily beautiful natural surroundings. Hidden in a canyon next to the museum is Kvernufoss, it is less known then Skógafoss waterfall but just as mesmerizing. In the summer time it is possible to walk behind the fall.
