Jökulsárlón is an incredible glacial lake covered in floating icebergs. The glacial lagoon is 18 square kilometers (11.2 square miles) and 248 meters (814 feet) deep. In fact, Jökulsárlón is Iceland’s deepest lake. What’s more, the glacial lake continues to grow as Vatnajökull slowly melts and breaks apart into the icebergs that float on its surface. Visitors can even book a boat tour and cruise in between the floating icebergs. Many commercials and several major international motion pictures have been filmed at Jökulsárlón including “Die Another Day” and “Batman Begins”. The Diamond Beach is located only a few minutes away from Jökulsárlón. This black sand beach is covered in pieces of icebergs from the glacial lagoon. Visitors can walk between the icebergs, which glitter and glisten in the sun as they slowly melt.
