Icelandic drinks at the Rangá Bar - Hotel Rangá

Icelandic drinks at the Rangá Bar

Iceland’s extreme weather conditions and dark winter months often call for a little ‘reviver’. After many chilly hours working outdoors or traveling long distances across the challenging terrain, Icelanders like nothing better than a warming pick-me-up.

Our guests are welcome to sample Icelandic drinks at the Rangá Bar. Furthermore, Hotel Rangá’s expert bartenders serve a variety of Icelandic liquors, beers and traditional cocktails.

Icelandic Liquor, Beer and Cocktails

There are a long list of intriguing Icelandic liquors and cocktails to try at the Rangá Bar. In fact, many draw their character and flavor from natural plants and traditional ingredients. These delightful flavors include local birch trees, wild angelica and arctic thyme.

However, some of these intriguing tipples pack a mighty Viking strength punch. As a result, it might be a good idea to make sure you have a soft moss-covered landing nearby. Perhaps one of Hotel Rangá’s incredibly comfortable beds might do the trick.

A Drink with Your Dinner

It is always a good idea to pair the proper drink with your dinner. Our bartenders can advise you about what flavors pair well with every dish on our menu. In fact, sometimes we create special drinks to serve alongside our seasonal menus.

Our most popular Icelandic drinks

Brennivín: First, we start with one of Iceland’s most popular liquors. Brennivín is an unsweetened schnapps seasoned with caraway, cumin, and wild angelica. What’s more, Brennivín has a very distinct taste and is normally a staggering 80 proof.

Birkir: Birch schnapps, 35% ABV, it has an earthy aroma with a slightly bitter and herbal taste.

Björk: Birch liqueur, a sweet, warming liquor with a hint of birch in the after taste.

Brenyolver: A high-quality Icelandic gin with a unique taste of Arctic thyme, angelica seeds and the more traditional juniper berries.

Topas: Liquor made with a mixture of herbs and licorice. Therefore, this is a very sweet, fortified drink that also has a cough linctus flavour.

Reyka Vodka: The water used to make Reyka comes from a 4,000-year-old lava field. What’s more, its taste is smooth and warm with just a touch of vanilla.

Vísi Gísli: A smooth aquavit made from pure Icelandic spring water, dill, caraway, coriander, lime peel, and timian.

Lava Smoked Imperial Stout: Full-bodied, pitch-black beer with sweet chocolate and roasted malt flavour. This is a strong, sturdy beer from Ölvisholt microbrewery.

What’s more, Hotel Rangá’s Bar has one of the most extensive whisky collections in Iceland. In fact, our selection is sure to satisfy any connoisseur. From classic cocktails to signature mixed Icelandic drinks, our bartenders can craft any libation you might desire. Learn more about the Rangá bar here.
