For adventure-seekers, visit the nearby Caves of Hella and explore a mysterious series of caves. There are many theories but no concrete evidence to confirm exactly who built these caves.

Take a day trip to the Westman Islands and explore the Eldheimar Museum. This unique museum was actually built around a house that was destroyed in the 1973 Eldfell volcanic eruption. Visitors can also learn more about Surtsey Island which was formed by a volcanic eruption. 

To learn more about Iceland’s history, take a visit to the Skógar Museum. This is one of the most unique museums in Iceland and consists of a collection of 8,000 regional artifacts exhibited in 6 historical buildings and 3 separate museums. This huge collection is just minutes from the beautiful waterfall Skógafoss. 

Iceland has a rich agricultural history. We highly suggest that you visit Efstidalur, a local farm that has been owned by the same family for generations. There is even an on-site shop that serves homemade ice cream made with milk from the farm’s cows. Museums in Iceland are a wonderful way to discover our country.
