If you are looking for an adventure, try the Lava Falls Adventure Tour. You will experience the unique lava tunnel Raufarhólshellir–an underground lava tube that was formed thousands of years ago. However, this tour goes even further under the earth and off the beaten path. Please be aware that this tour requires you to traverse rocky terrain and navigate big boulders. Good balance and good physical health is required.
The Lava Falls Adventure Tour always consists of small groups that are led by an expert caving guide. Due to the rocky terrain, it is required that all participants wear sturdy hiking boots with ankle support. You should also wear a warm base layer and water resistant outer layer–sometimes the cave can be a bit wet. The tour lasts for about 3-4 hours, all of which will be spent exploring underground by headlamp.
Note: It takes approximately 60 minutes to drive from Hotel Rangá to the Lava Tunnel. Pick up can be included at an additional cost. Good physical health is required for this tour. It is not recommended for those that suffer from claustrophobia or pregnant women.
