Fimmvörðuháls Hike
Fimmvörðuháls is considered to be one of the most difficult yet most rewarding hikes in south Iceland. The trail takes you through a range of different landscapes. Walk beside stunning waterfalls and watch the powerful Skóga river flowing between high cliffs. You will also see views of the Eyjafjallajökull and Myrdalsjökull glaciers as you walk across the volcanic area formed during the 2010 eruption. The final part of the hike involves a lovely descent into the striking Þórsmörk valley.
Please be aware that this is a challenging hike. The hike itself is 24 km (15 miles) with an elevation gain of 1050 m (3444 ft) and takes approximately 9 – 12 hours. After reaching your destination, you will return to the meeting point via super jeep. This is a full-day hike; in total, you will be gone 11 – 14 hours. You should wear proper hiking shoes, bring layers and make sure that you have raingear–Icelandic weather can change quickly. You will complete the hike alongside an expert guide and learn more about the area during your journey.
