Eyjafjalla Horseback Riding Tour

This 2-hour horseback riding tour is a great option for both beginners and more experienced riders. After meeting at the Skálakot stables, you will be matched with a horse that best suits your experience level. You will be provided with all necessary riding gear and start your ride with an expert guide. You will start your ride by going uphill towards a beautiful hidden valley surrounded by mountains and lovely vistas. To the east, you can see stunning views of Holtsnúpur mountain and Holtsdalur valley. To the south, you can see all the way to the coast. On a clear day, you will even be able to see views of the Westman Islands. You will end the tour by riding back to the meeting point with a stop to see the Írárfoss waterfall.  Note: Pick up is not included with this tour. It takes approximately 30 minutes to drive from Hotel Rangá to the meeting point at Skálakot. Pick up can be added for an additional cost. The minimum age for this tour is 6 years. Furthermore, there is a weight limit of 120 kg / 264 lbs.

Questions

The minimum age for horseback riding tours in Iceland is 6 years old. However, younger children are able to go on stable tours. There is also the possibility that younger children can ride a horse with the assistance of a trainer – contact the Hotel Rangá reception to learn more.
There is a minimum of 2 persons for all horseback riding tours.
We can arrange a private transfer from the hotel at additional cost.

No you do not have to be an experienced rider, however if you are it is good to know in advance and you might get a perkier horse.
The Icelandic horses are smaller than the average horse, yet they are very strong and have no problem carrying adult riders.
Yes, but you might get wet due to rainy conditions. If you choose to bring your camera, we strongly suggest that you put it in a good waterproof bag.
The weather in Iceland can change rapidly. In fact, we can say that Iceland’s extreme weather is a part of the adventure. But with your safety in mind we reserve the right to cancel this tour due to very bad weather conditions.
The horses still enjoy their rides during these conditions, and we think you will too! However, if there are very extreme winds or snowstorms, the tour could be cancelled or rescheduled.
