Caves of Hella
Twelve man-made caves have been discovered on Ægissíða in Hella, just a 10-minute drive from Hotel Rangá. Five of these caves are included in guided tours and are Iceland’s oldest archaeological remains still standing, potentially dating back before the Viking settlement.
The caves feature ancient crosses, carvings, and seats, shrouded in mystery. Questions remain: Were they built by the Celts? Did they serve as sacred sites?
