Summer is here at Hotel Ranga
Yesterday the skies were clear and we had "hot" temperatures - by Icelandic means - in the 25° C range. Fantastic summer weather in other words. The latest update on the Eyjafjallajökull volcano is that only steam is coming out of it at the moment. This has been the situation since the past 2-3 weeks. No ash problems at all iow. But to see the volcanos white steam cloud on top of the now blackened glacier in clear weather - like yesterday - is a majestic sight to witness.
All of the regions great summer activities are now also opening up. River rafting, trout fishing, horse riding, fantastic 4 wheel drive tours on quadbikes, diving in Thingvellir, golf at Strandvöllur, helicopter tours from the hotel, super jeep tours to all the local sites, snowmobiling (Langjökull), local museums, cave exploration, ... Soon the salmon season is due to begin in our local rivers. Puffins are still mating at Dyrholaey - but it will soon open up as well. The road to Landmannalaugar is now open. And the other highland roads seem to be ready to open early this year - due to the extremely dry spring weather. The road into Thorsmörk is however presently closed.
And maybe the best news of all - the new ferry to The Westman Isles is due to start operating from the new harbour in Bakki in July. This will provide great new opportunities for day trips from Hotel Ranga to enjoy whale watching, deep sea angling, bird watching, walking around the dormant Heimaey volcano and playing golf on one of Icelands' - if not the worlds' - most beautiful & unique golf courses. We really look forward to the Grand Opening here as it makes a great local attraction accesible all year round to all of our guests in the future. Come to Hotel Ranga this summer & Enjoy.
